TechnologyOne’s ICON acquisition already paying off
TechnologyOne (ASX: TNE) has continued to reinforce its position as the leading provider of enterprise software for local government, signing a number of new customers for its online planning solution since the acquisition of leading Australiasian ePlanning software provider, ICON Software, earlier this year.
Customers that have signed up for the ePlanning solution include Wellington City Council and Hutt City Council in New Zealand, and Kyogle Council and Marrickville Council in Australia.
“TechnologyOne’s acquisition of ICON definitely impacted our decision to purchase the ePlanning solution,” said Marrickville Council Manager Information and Communications Technology, Carlos Loureiro.
“In fact, the main reason we brought this project forward was the acquisition. This is because we believe in having a single source of truth across Council, and as an existing TechnologyOne customer, having this solution embedded as part of the core product, was key.
“We didn’t want to have to deal with multiple vendors - we prefer to take an enterprise approach to software across Council.”
The ePlanning solution has enabled Marrickville Council to improve its planning processes, which were manual and time consuming.
Marrickville Council’s Project Manager, Peter Johnston stated that: “Council’s long-term plan is to move to a completely electronic environment, where everything is available online and we can remove all paperwork associated with development applications”.
“Previously, our process was extremely manual, and involved us putting together our Development Control Plans in Microsoft Word, before using a PDF creator to make it available to the public. The ePlanning tool enables us to automate that publishing process, thereby removing the guesswork for developers.
“In the longer term, the introduction of this new technology will speed up the release of amendments to plans, by removing long-winded version control processes. For the community, we will improve the service we provide by making plans user friendly and easily searchable.”
TechnologyOne Executive Chairman Adrian Di Marco said the ICON acquisition provided important functionality for the company’s offering in the local government sector, as well as deep domain expertise.
“The acquisition of ICON has enabled us to offer an unrivalled ePlanning and assessment solution to customers like Marrickville Council,” he said.
“Our focus is on delivering an end-to-end solution and a single point of accountability for all TechnologyOne customers, and the addition of an ePlanning solution enables us to expand on our integrated and digital local government enterprise vision.”
