TechnologyOne Expands to Larger Premises

Leading Australian provider of enterprise business software solutions, Technology One Limited will move into Fortitude Valley’s landmark new HQ development, when construction is completed in early 2010.


TechnologyOne will accommodate over 5,000 square metres in the north tower of the HQ Development.

Joint venture partners Leighton Contractors and Leighton Properties are currently developing HQ, two towers of eight and 12 storeys which will form a new commercial and retail precinct in Fortitude Valley.

TechnologyOne is one of Australia’s largest publicly listed IT companies.

Despite reports of a downturn in the IT sector sparked by the current global economic environment, TechnologyOne has continued to make significant investments in R&D and win substantial new business in Australia and overseas, necessitating the move to a larger space in the world class HQ development.

The company has taken a 7-year lease and plans to move into the space in April 2010, relocating hundreds of its staff from three existing offices in Toowong, Taringa and 108 Wickham Street.

The company currently employs more than 700 people with almost half of these based in TechnologyOne’s current head office in Toowong. It also has offices throughout Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia and the United Kingdom.

TechnologyOne has followed the lead of other major businesses such as Virgin Blue Airlines, Flight Centre and Boeing by making Brisbane their Asia-Pacific base.

Executive Chairman Adrian Di Marco said moving to HQ will allow the company to accommodate all its Queensland staff under one roof and will provide the capacity for further growth.

“The company has been doubling in size every two and half years for the past 16 years and the time is right for us to move to more centralised and superior accommodation,” he said.

“The innovative, modern building reflects TechnologyOne’s business style and is of a standard much higher than any of our existing offices.”

“The building also has achieved a Six Star Green Star – Office Design v2 rating. We’re always promoting the importance of carbon accounting and better sustainability management to our software customers, so environmental responsibility is important to us.”

TechnologyOne is poised for further expansion and is looking to recruit another 100 new staff in the near future after already hiring 80 since the start of the year.

Mr Di Marco said this year the company’s R&D spend will be around the $27 million dollars.

“We have invested more than $100 million in the last seven years in R&D. We believe it’s an investment in both the future of the business and the future of our customers,” he said.

“Our new facilities at HQ will provide the best working environment for our innovative and talented software developers. Our plan is build a ‘state of the art’ Research & Development centre that will foster creativity and innovation, using the latest in emerging technologies, which will allow us to continue to compete strongly against the world’s biggest software companies such as Oracle and Microsoft ”

Leighton Properties Executive Director Andrew Borger said he was pleased to have TechnologyOne on board.

“HQ is the new breed of office space, so it is appropriate that we have the new breed of global business such as TechnologyOne as tenants,” Mr Borger said.

“We know that sustainable and healthy workplaces lead to happier and more productive employees and we plan to make HQ a strong example of this.”

Leighton Contractors Northern Region General Manager Darren Weir said works were continuing well on-site.

“Earthworks are near completion while the retention systems, foundation and lift pits are well underway. The second of three tower cranes will be erected prior to Christmas,” Mr Weir said.

Designed by architect Bligh Voller Nield, HQ comprises two buildings over a total of 43,500 square metres.

HQ is the second large mixed use joint venture project to be developed and completed between Leighton Properties and Leighton Contractors. In July this year, the companies completed Green Square, the largest corporate office precinct to be built in Brisbane in the past 15 years. Leading the way with innovative sustainable designs, the joint venture partners were recently awarded the 2008 Queensland Environmental Protection Agency’s Award for Sustainability in the Built Environment.
